Dr. Kamau is the founder of UhuruDC, LLC, an economic development firm that tailors programs for small and medium-size organizations, assisting them grow, diversify, accelerate innovation and drive job creation, and resilience, increasing the economic and social prosperity. Uhuru DC, LLC takes a unique approach to working with clients as partners, effectively blending both quantitative and qualitative inputs at every point in the process. Most importantly, the focus is on developing realistic recommendations that can be easily understood and readily implemented.

Dr. Kamau brings over 15 years of economic development experience supporting revitalization efforts in all 8 wards of the District of Columbia. As the Associate Director for Commercial Revitalization for the DC Department of Small and Local Business Development, Dr. Kamau was responsible for managing and funding 9 DC Main Street Programs; 12 DC Clean Team Programs, and overseeing the charter for 11 Business Improvement Districts (BIDs).

Born and raised in Nairobi, Kenya, Dr. Kamau holds a Doctoral degree from Howard University in Organizational Development. Dr. Kamau currently resides in Pleasant Plains neighborhood, and enjoys live music, volunteering, and traveling.
